Preparing to Work
Getting Ready
Make sure the cabinet has been certified within the last year
Check gauges and/or monitors to make sure that the equipment is functioning properly
Write, keep available, and use emergency spill protocols
Prepare a written checklist and follow it to ensure everything needed is in the unit to minimize arm movements in and out of the barrier
Wear Personal Protection Equipment
Long sleeve lab coat or disposable long sleeved gown
Nitrile or other barrier gloves, to protect you and the work from contamination
Eye protection
Any other personal protective equipment as required in the area or by the risk assessment or job safety analysis (JSA)
Setting up the Cabinet
Do not block grille or airflow slots
Disinfect work area and work surfaces before setting up
Check that the window is in the correct position
Make sure that the drain valve is closed
Make sure that everything needed to complete the work is in the cabinet
Segregate clean items from ones that will get contaminated
